We're off to Jekyll Island a couple people at a time. Nancy, Karen and Daphne will drive to Atlanta via Memphis Elvis-Graceland, starting Tuesday. Mike is flying to Atlanta Wednesday. Janet and Anna will fly out to Jacksonville Saturday, where Samantha will pick them up and take them to Jekyll Island. Kevin, Aimee and Jaime will fly in Friday, August 4th. We will stay at a house on the ocean front (the Hacienda) . It looks great. I'm sure we will take a few interesting side trips going and coming and while we are staying. Hopefully, everything and everybody gets where the are going. I guess it'll all work out. Wish you all could join us. Love Mike & Nancy

Update on Jaime's whereabouts

we went to santorini, it was beautiful but i like mykonos the best so far, it's so bustling and lively. i have taken a fair amount of pictures, but not too many because i am trying to spare my battery, but a few of the guys on the boat have taken a lot and we are making cds at the end for everyone. julies boyfriend, hannes, his best friend andy is like a guy version of me. he is 26 and is done with his schooling and will start volunteering when we get back; in the hospital. he is going to be a heart surgeon... and his dad works for luftansa asa pilot so he flies all the time (standby... and he is aloud to sit on the jump seat on luftansa so he always has good luck... he was going to be a pilot for a while until he realized he wanted to do medicine) and he took like 800 pictures while we've been here. my emails are short because i have to pay to use the internet, sorry, and i just want to let you know i am alive and we are in greece not israel. where should i fly to when i leave athens? we are going to eat now at a fish cafe... yeck!

I finally figured out how to get my husband home!!!

Hi everyone,
I'm home from the hospital...thanks for the blog Jan, your e-mail Crissy and for everyone's calls to Pat. I don't recommend Meningitis as a way to get away for a few days girls...it kinda sucks!!! Not sure what was worse, the Spinal Tap...or the incredibly painful procedure they had to do to REPAIR the Spinal Tap. It was very hard to be in the hospital all alone, with Pat half way across the world, and not being able to see the kids (that was the worst).....but I'm thankful that my neighbor could take the kids for a day and a half until Pat gone home. The fun part is now dealing with the headaches (which may last for many more days) and incredible neck and back pain. In any case, I'm home and that's all that counts!! And, it could have been worse, it could have happened right before Hawaii or Crissy's wedding. I've been complaining that I didn't have anything interesting to Blog about....boy, the lengths I will go!!!!! At least I'm not including any photos!!! Only 6 weeks until we see you all! Thanks again for your well wishes!

World Cup Celebration

morai and i went to rome yesterday for the game and we just got back, well, about 30 minutes ago, i had to shower off all the champagne that was still on me from everyone in the city spraying it. we watched it in the circus maximus. it was the only place they were showing of rome on the tv that i saw at least. i think everyone in the city must have been there! they showed all the other major cities around the country, and rome was by far the biggest party. they are estimating 300,000 people being there, at least that is what i got from the papers. i got two by the way, and they are very cool. we got there at 4 30 and it was pretty intense already. the game started at 8, so it was a loooong, hot, tiring day. there were crowds, but everyone was very nice and in such a great mood. you had to keep your eyes peeled because there were soccer balls flying around everywhere. i think everyone got hit in the head at least once last night! during the game the crowd was so intense. during the shoot out, everyone was clinging on to each other, the entire crowd was hugging each other. after, man, it was anarchy. the police allowed the crowd to do what they wanted to do, no laws were enforced last night. everyone was dancing in the fountains, all the major fountains of rome were packed with people. i got in the one right next to this big governmental building, right next to the forum. it was something that i know i will never experience, and i doubt i will find anyone else who has or will ever experience that. the city was packed with people from building to building. fireworks were being set off all around, sometimes it felt like there were bombs everywhere. we kept saying that we felt like we were in a war, everyone was that intense and all the fireworks were crazy. they had smoke bombs that lighted up red. it seemed like we were in another world! we took a bunch of pictures and our professor friends let us borrow their large memory card, so we have a few great videos as well. you will not believe it! we hung out with a certain group of people, and if you see any pictures of the circus maximus, we are right in the front and center, if you spot a large blue flag, we are right there. it wasn't blowing much, the flag, so look for a pole with a blue flag on it. that was one of our friends last night, we were a little in front and to the right if you are looking at the crowd. one friend said that the game was more than just two soccer teams, that france and italy go back a long way, and that is was a war, and that game was a battle. he also said that he loves every minute of his life, and every minute is the best, and any friend he has at one minute is his best friend at that moment, so he kept calling us his best friend. he kept saying that the announcer was so well spoken that he was describing the intensity of the game and it brought this guy, and several other people in the crowd to tears. i can't wait to show you pictures!

sorry about france's misfortune...all the italians were about to kill that one player after he head butted that guy! but we all cheered when he left the stadium! talk to you later! love sam

Jakarta

Is unreal. It is like Bangkok on steriods. A guy who I met and became very close with a while back, the guy who owns the hotels and many other business around Southeast Asia told me that you can buy hotels in Bali for $300 to $500K cash. Use credit and you could buy 3 or 4. He says they are about to skyrocket. This place is paradise. He realy knows his stuff to and is one of the nicest guys I have ever met. Karen met him to he is Andrie. He owns the Hotel Anahata as well as about 6 or 7 others at least. I am staying at the Grand Hyatt Jakarta. One of the best hotels I ever stayed at. When he picked us up, he mentioned they own this hotel also. Unreal connections and money!! Spent the day with him and he showed us around and took us out to dinner. Have some pics but unforntunaly not spending a lot of time here this time. We are realy working hard at setting up the Bali trip so Lisa and the kids can go. Look up www.anahataresort.com and look at the pics. It is in the rain forest and our room would have 3 stories, one master suite, two bedrooms on the second floor and a pool and jacuzzi on the bottom floor. Place it stunning.

Singapore, Jakarta, Singapore, home.

Flew from LAX to Narita Tokyo Japan, then to Singapore last night. Very long flight.
Once again, it is raining in Singapore. I think this is the third or fourth time I have been here and not seen one day without rain. Off to Jakarta tomorrow for two days. Staying at the Grand Hyatt in Jakarta. Looks like a great hotel.

Jamie, I noticed your comment about movies on planes in first class. Since I started traveling here, I have been flying Thai, Singapore, Asiana, Cathay, etc. Every one of these have your own personal screen with games, movies (30 movies on my flight last night) TV shows (about 30) radio, news, info about destinations, digital music, etc. etc. The food is far and away better then any US carrier. The service is about 10 times better. Not to bash Continental here since I have not really flown them much but I avoid US carriers as much as possible as they do not compare to these carriers.

People tell me it is the unions. Not sure I buy that. It probably is to a point but it is also about attitude. I flew United once on a long leg back home once and it realy stood out as miserable comparitivly. Less room, horid food, horid service, dirty old plane, no choice on entertainment, etc.

If I have time, I will try to take some pics in Jakarta. Not sure I will have much as I have two days of a lot of work here.

To see what Jaime is seeing today!!

Hey Jaime, Did you know that Santorini is an active volcano? Some historians believe that Atlantis is buried near Santorini, and it was destroyed by a volcanic eruption. Sail away, fast!

Pat and Lisa, you were in Santorini too, weren't you?

Wish I was there, or Jakarta, or somewhere other than O'Hare airport!

Guten Tag from Schlitternahn, TX (anna)

Hey guys! I felt left out looking at pictures of Italy and Greece so i am posting my vacation. This is the Maser Blaster, which was voted the best waterpark ride in the country and the best water prak by the travel channel. They have alot of uphill slides. There is 65 acres of water slides, lazyrivers (not so lazy), tube chutes, kiddie rides, and everything you can imagine. I can't wait to get my own name for the blog. Talk to you soon,

Siena Italy

For Samantha: I had a photo of the Siena plaza where the horse race is held. Nancy & I were in Siena a few years ago. I don't know how the horses make the turns without slipping and crashing. The town was one of our favorites in Europe. Did you take any photos ?

soccer games and horse races...how perfect

so the past three days were the best days i spent in italy so far...on friday
was the italy game, and i watched it in a bar where there weren't any
americans...the italians were chanting and singing and clapping the whole
time, they were cracking jokes, making voices, just being silly...it
was great. when they scored, the entire place erupted...they lifted
us out of our chairs and ran around. it was great. one time, someone
knocked something over, and then soon after that this guy stood up
with blood all over his face. he cut himself somehow and had to
leave. they fed us cake with pineapple chunks and cookies and bought
us drinks. it was so much fun. best world cup experience i've ever
had...hope italy wins tomorrow cause that will be even crazier if they
do...the people at the bar invited us back to watch it with them
tomorrow and they are serving lasgna, so i bet that will be really
tasty.

yesterday i went to sienna for the palio, which is one of the craziest
things i ever experienced in my life. its a horse race around the
piazza, but the only rule is that the jockies can't interfere with
another jockey's reins...they can whip each other and the other
horses, they can beat each other up before the race, they can drug
each others horses, give them sedatives or something, its insane.
yesterday more jockies came off then stayed on, which is normal.
there is one turn that is lined with mattresses b/c people always
crash there. one horse came down and crushed the jockey...i think he
had to be carried off the track before the horses came around again.

the action leading up to the race is just as fun and intense as the
race is. most of the day the contradas, the fans of the different
neighborhoods of sienna i think, walk around the city. they have a
parade of flag throwers, drummers, chanters, knights all decked out,
and horses. sometimes the opposing contradas meet and riots break
out. i didn't see any of those, but i heard all sorts of things going
on all around. two hours before the race the parade on the track
starts. the bell tower starts chiming, once about every five seconds
for two hours, maybe even three hours. it sets the tone, and just
makes you get that much more excited.

the entire piazza is packed, and we had to claim our spot on the
railing 7 hours before the race. i heard that if you aren't on the
railing then you can't see. we almost got into two different fist
fights over it too. these people around us were being totally
unreasonable and tried to start something with us, but everyone else
around us was on our side, it wouldn't have been good for those
people if they tried something. i thought morai, my friend, was going
to pull out her marine moves though, and i was afraid we were going
to get arrested! it was funny, and this one little scrawny girl threatened
me and i just looked at her and laughed. people are freaks man!

after the race everyone storms the track, so we jumped the railing
with all the crazy fans and started running around, the horses were
still running around the track, so you had to watch out so you didn't
get trampled. people who were for the losing teams were sobbing, i
mean, you wouldn't thought someone died the way they were crying.

after a little while, after everything was cleaned up, they put
candles on top of some of the buildings lining the piazza. it was
beautiful. the winning family/neighborhood came back to the piazza
carrying their flags and beating their drums to have a party for the
rest of the night. so much fun!

Pouting Jan

Well, I just sit here day after day and make arrangements for everyone else to travel. Jaime will leave tomorrow for a quick visit to a friend in NY. And then off to cruise the Greek Islands. Anna leaves tomorrow for San Antonio Texas with the Mundys for a week. Kev says someone has to work and go to school, so he cannot travel. You all should fly Continental, we just won the JD Power and associates award for best traditional airline, with international service. It is a different class than low cost carriers and we are the best!
